About Txakoli from Getaria
The Getariako Txakolina Denomination of Origin was created in 1989, it is the oldest of all those that we find today. This DO controls and guarantees the quality of the wine that is being consumed from the origin of the grape.
At first, it only covered the vineyards located in the municipality of Getaria, but in 2007 it expanded its domains to the entire province of Gipuzkoa.
The best way to identify a Txakoli from Getaria is to look at the Guarantee Seal that we find on the bottles, thus making sure that the wine we are tasting complies with everything contained in the regulations and regulations of this D.O.
WHITE TXAKOLI: For white txakoli, the autochthonous white vine variety is Hondarrabi Zuri, but it also has a percentage of Chardonnay that is harvested when it reaches the optimal ripeness criteria for the production of a top-quality Txakoli.
ROSÉ TXAKOLI: For the rosé, the autochthonous variety of white vine is the Hondarrabi Zuri, but they also have a percentage of ink called Hondarrabi Beltza that is harvested when it reaches the optimal maturation criteria for the production of a top quality Txakoli.
The best known and most popular is the white Txakoli, then the rosé Txakoli and finally the red, with less presence.
The Mokoroa winery produces the White Txakoli and the Pink Txakoli.
